My growth in dramaturgy has been supported through a mentorship with my own dramaturge, Melbourne based Martyn Coutts.
Provocateuring and Facilitation
I love facilitating, provocateuring and supporting the growth of other artists in any way shape or form. Some examples of my work in this field include (but are not limited to), provocateuring for GENERATE (Situate Festival, on the Gold Coast 2019-2021); facilitating the South-East Asian Choreolab Rimbun dahan, Malaysia 2019); mentoring for the 2017 Stompin. Youth Choreographic project; provocateuring for Phluxus2’s The indepenDANCE Project (2013-2018).
Producing
Liesel has produced all of her choreographic work and resulting tours to date (excluding Fifteen and Us and All of This). In 2019 she joined Performing Lines to produce Amrita Hepi’s A Call To Dance tour to MELBOURNE, PERTH, GERMANY and NEW ZEALAND. She was the initial creative producer for Michael Smith’s Cowboy (2018-19).
She also created and delivered the 2019 Hong Kong / Queensland Independent Dance Exchange. This was a partnership between West Kowloon Cultural District Authority (Hong Kong), City Contemporary Dance Festival (CCDF, Hong Kong), Supercell Dance Festival (QLD), and Metro Arts (Qld) involving a range activities aimed at building the ongoing relationships between Brisbane and Hong Kong artists including:
- Granite: a cultural exchange between 2 HK and 2 Qld dancers, with performances at Supercell BRISBANE and CCDF HONG KONG.
- HK Stories presentation of a triple bill of work from Independent Hong Kong Artists at Supercell, BRISBANE
- Joseph Lee (HK) Metro Arts residency, creative research for a new project in collaboration with 5 emerging Qld Dancers, BRISBANE.
